Without Hesitation: The Rasner Effect II

Mark Rosendorf once again, creates a story that is thrilling, mind-twisting and the end result is an intelligent read, with well defined and interesting characters and enough plot twists and turns to keep a reader well engaged and wanting more from the Rasner Effect series.

Review by Pat from Booksake:

Who among us is insane? Is it those locked away and certified by society as insane or is it those in power who manipulate peoples’ lives? Is it the circumstances of one’s life that makes one insane or is it a condition that manifests itself without external influence? Do people kill because an inner voice tells them to or because they are placed in circumstances where they have no choice? These are all questions that I am left with after reading Without Hesitation The Rasner Effect II by Mark Rosendorf.

Again the lives of Clara Blue, the teenager locked away in the Brookhill Children’s Psychiatric Residence, is entwined with Jen of the Duke Organization, a group of criminally insane murderers, and eventually with Jake Scarberry, an ex-mercenary who thought that he disbanded the Duke Organization when he killed their leader. Rosendorf leads the reader through a labyrinth of situations and events at the Brookhill institute that leads one to the conclusion that the adults in charge are, in many cases, as dysfunctional as the children who reside there.

This was an enthralling thriller that kept me engaged until the very end. Rosendorf is masterful in his ability to lead the reader through twists and turns that end in surprising outcomes. This is a great book for those who like mystery/thrillers and do not have a weak stomach.

Book Rating: 4 /5

This is the second in the series and it is just as full, if not more, of none stop action which makes it hard to write a review and not give anything away. You will not want to put this book down until the last word is read. If you haven't read The Rasner Effect, I recommend you get a copy of both, clear your schedule, and hang on for a wild ride.

This is a sequel that doesn't disappoint. I want to thank Mr. Mark Rosendorf for having his publisher send it to me. Now knowing there is a 3rd in the works; I can't wait to see what Clara and Jake do next.

READING WITH MONIE:

Mark Rosendorf himself admits to being only 83% sane and I believe it! How else can you think up such mind boggling action scenes? As with The Rasner Effect the good guys and bad guys change with each turn of the page which makes for one very intriguing suspense thriller.

I highly recommend both books for suspense and thriller lovers but I don't feel that Without Hesitation is a standalone read. With all the twists and turns you'll definitely need to have read The Rasner Effect to know who's who and remember what's going on. But get started now because there is a huge cliffhanger that I'm absolutely positive means there will be a Rasner Effect III and I can't wait.

Christy Tillery French:

In this sequel to The Rasner Effect, adolescent Clara Blue is back where she started, as a resident of a mental institution for children, where she, once more, is in constant conflict with the director. After the death of Rick Rasner, member of the Duke Organization and the one who helped Clara escape the psychiatric residence in book one, Clara longs for nothing more than her freedom. When Jennifer Duke appears, posing as a counselor, Clara willingly agrees to recruit young people for the Duke Organization, which Jen plans to revitalize. Jake Scarberry, the man responsible for the death of Rick Rasner and the breakup of the Duke Organization, is now living a normal life under the witness protection program. Jake enjoys his life and plans to never return to his former occupation as mercenary. But if Jennifer Duke has her way, Jake may be forced back into a life he wants to leave behind.

The only likable character in this series is Jake Scarberry, and that isn’t constant. However, the lack of likable characters works for this series. Clara Blue at times evokes empathy and one searches for redeeming qualities, but her propensity to kill without plan or intent is unsettling and places her more in the psychotic range than normal. Jennifer Duke, well-portrayed by the author, is evil personified among an array of maniacal, ominous characters, some supposedly on the side of good, others on the side of evil. Rosendorf nicely delivers a couple of unexpected twists in this intense, action-packed thriller which will undoubtedly leave readers anxious for the next book.
